The wheel of the year has come ’round again to April, and that means it’s time for Thirty Days of Biking!
I love the spirit of this movement. It’s not about any one kind of bike or any one kind of riding — it’s just about getting out there on two (or three, or one, or — heck — maybe even like six) human-powered wheels and riding every day.
I’m also signed on for Strava’s Spring Classics challenge, though I’m not sure I’m quite up to rolling out 800+ miles in one month yet. We’ll see. If nothing else, it’s a goal for next April.
I got a decent start in with fourteen super-slow miles yesterday. I plan to head out to just ride today, for the first time in a while, but I’m waiting ’til it warms up a little (and doing laundry). I am done being chilly on the bike for the time being (unless Almanzo requires it).
I’m very much on track weight loss-wise right now, which feels great. I picked up a few pounds over the holidays, but now I’m back at 168 and heading steadily down. The funny thing is that I looked in the mirror for once in my life and actually thought, “Huh, I think I look slimmer,” and — lo and behold — I was right. It’s not the shedding weight (which is normal, if you’re a cyclist in the Northern hemisphere and it’s April) or the being right (which I am ALL THE TIME, of course ^-^) that I suppose is so unheard-of … it’s me thinking I’m slimmer. That’s progress.
I never did get the Tricross out to the shop last weekend, so I guess for now I’m going to have to make do with things as they are. I’m cautiously optimitic about being able to do Sunday’s Populaire, though I haven’t yet decided whether to ride the Tricross or the Fearsome Fuji.
It’s also about time for the Spring Haircut, though usually that waits until my hair gets unbearably long. Right now, it’s all up in my eyes all the time and it’s driving me crazy. I haven’t decided how short it’s going to be. We’ll see.
I haven’t much else to report. I have some less bike-related stuff to write about at some point, but I’m not feeling the mojo just now. Really, the sun is shining, the birds are
nesting in my mailbox singing, and I just want to go ride the bike.
Which is to say, I think I’m back, y’all.
