Last night I announced to my husband that I would be taking an early(ish) ride to get coffee because I am participating in Chasing Mailboxes D.C.’s 2013 Coffeeneuring Challenge.
I figured he’d say, “Oh, okay, have fun freezing your tuchas off,” but instead he said, “Okay, but I’m wearing street clothes.”
…Which he did. Sort of.
This morning we rolled out of bed around 8:45 and headed out on the tandem around 9:15. We rode all of two miles (!!!) to a favorite local coffee joint, Sister Bean’s.
Another patron of the Church of the Bean was kind enough to get a couple pictures of us together:
As you can see, Denis didn’t exactly make good on his threat about wearing street clothes. When he saw that I was wearing this particular jersey, he asked, “Isn’t that the one we have a match for?”
And I said, “Indeed it is!”
So he pulled on a cabal jersey over long underwear and wicking baselayer and the stretchy, sparkly jeans that I envy him because I am still not skinny enough to fit in them (getting there, though).
Once inside, we stripped off our seventy-seven layers of headgear and gloves and ordered a mocha, a hot chocolate, a chess bar, and a pumpkin roll.
Then we proceeded to enjoy our breakfast tremendously:
…while taking awkward selfies.
Then we rode a WHOLE TWO MILES HOME!!! during which the Tandem did 21 MPH for quite a stretch on the flat. I was Very Proud of my stoker, who has probably never gone that fast on a bike before in his entire life.
…And a good time was had by all.
Rubber side down, people!
